Collect contributions

How to get plenty of good contributions, with a timeline, reminders and tips for people who are short on time.

Where can I see who has joined in?

In your book, in step 4. You see the number of contributors, messages and photos. New contributions show up live. You also get an email.

Why can't I see every contribution?

So the book stays a surprise for you too. You only see the three latest contributions. Everything else you discover in the preview or in the finished book.

How many contributions do I need?

From about ten contributions the book feels really full. But five still make a lovely book. The layout adapts.

Which timeline works?

Start four to six weeks before the occasion and plan three to four weeks for collecting. This routine has worked well:

  1. Kick-off. Share the link and name a clear deadline. Mention that it only takes two minutes.
  2. First reminder. One week before the deadline.
  3. Final reminder. One or two days before the deadline. Most contributions arrive now.
  4. Order. For the printed book, at least seven days before the occasion.

How do I reach everyone again?

Reminders are easier when everyone is in one place. Start a group without the person you're celebrating. Or send one email with everyone in BCC and reply to it later.

What about people with little time?

Give them a shortcut. For example: "If you only have a minute, just write your personal message at the end." A short message beats none at all.

How do I collect money for the gift?

Sort this out at the start:

  • How much does the book cost? The app shows you the current price.
  • How will you collect? PayPal, bank transfer or cash.
  • Name an amount per person. That's easier than "give what you like".

You pay by invoice with 14 days to pay. That gives you time to collect the money.
